When will you need to open your suitcase on the first day?

If you plan to send luggage to a MIMARU in Tokyo, decide when you will need to open it before you decide when to reach the hotel. The right option depends on whether you want to change clothes after checking in during the afternoon or can stay out until your evening plans are over. Sending a case from the airport can make the journey easier, but hotel check-in and luggage collection do not happen at the same time.

MIMARU describes three different arrangements: leaving bags you carry with the front desk, sending an ordinary parcel to the hotel in advance, and booking Luggage Delivery by MIMARU separately. This guide uses MIMARU Tokyo Station East as the accommodation in view. The dedicated airport service lists hotel collection from 20:00 onward. If you need clothes or toiletries when rooms become available at 15:00, keep them in a smaller bag with you.

A free storage window does not mean that transport from the airport is free. Storage and delivery are separate services. A booking site may also show a storage charge without telling you which dates and hours the hotel’s general guidance covers. When you ask the hotel, include the name on your stay, the exact branch and the date the bag would arrive.

Station East is in Hatchobori

MIMARU Tokyo Station East is at 1-12-8 Hatchobori, Chuo-ku, Tokyo. Although Tokyo Station appears in the hotel’s name, the property is not inside Tokyo Station. The hotel lists a two-minute walk from Exit 4 of Hatchobori Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line and a four-minute walk from the B1 exit for the JR Keiyo Line. Those are the hotel’s stated walking times; they do not guarantee the time with a suitcase or a step-free route.

If you arrive on the Yaesu side of Tokyo Station, save the hotel address and check the final leg separately. Similar station and hotel names can make the first transfer look shorter than it is. There is also a separate MIMARU Tokyo Hatchobori property, so do not write only “MIMARU near Hatchobori” on a parcel label or delivery booking.

The reason to consider this branch is whether its Hatchobori location and apartment-style rooms suit your stay. Choosing only by luggage delivery can push the neighbourhood you will return to at night and the room setup out of view. If most of your evenings are in Shinjuku, compare the access and rooms in our Shinjuku Prince and Gracery guide as well. Delivery eligibility and the place you sleep each night are separate decisions.

Check the hours for luggage you bring to the hotel

MIMARU’s general FAQ says guests can leave luggage they bring themselves between 07:00 and 22:00 on the check-in and check-out days, free of charge. Storage may be unavailable when space is limited, so tell the branch in advance if you have several or unusually large bags. Outside that date-and-time window, the FAQ lists an additional charge of ¥500 per bag per day. Do not assume the same-day free window covers bags you leave and collect several days later.

If you reach the area in the morning, leaving your case at the front desk and travelling with a lighter bag is the simpler option. You do not need to book the airport delivery service, but you still have to carry the case from the airport to the hotel. Weigh that journey against whether you will need anything inside the case again during the afternoon. If you need to change a child’s clothes or prepare for work during the day, keeping the case with you may suit you better.

Being able to leave a bag does not mean you can enter your room early. The general FAQ lists 15:00 as the standard check-in time; an earlier room depends on readiness. A shared area where you might sit for a short time is different from a private room where you can rest. The lobby photograph shows a shared table area. It is not a promise of a seat or a place to wait for a long time on your arrival day.

Send ordinary parcels under the right name and date

If you are sending a case from Kyoto or another Tokyo hotel, ask the receiving branch about the arrival date first. MIMARU’s general FAQ recommends using the name on the hotel reservation and arranging arrival on or after the check-in date. It also warns that an early arrival may incur an extra storage charge. That guidance is not a promise that every parcel arriving on check-in day will be accepted free of charge.

The questions are practical: which carrier to use, how many bags will arrive and on what date, which booking name to put on the label, when the branch can hand them over, and whether storage will cost extra. Keep the reply. Until the hotel confirms, do not schedule an early delivery on the assumption that it will wait for you free of charge. A carrier’s “delivered” scan is also different from collecting the parcel at the front desk.

Check what the service will not accept, too. MIMARU’s general storage and advance-delivery guidance excludes valuables, fragile items and food. The dedicated luggage service has its own transport restrictions, so a large suitcase is not automatically acceptable just because it fits inside. Keep your passport, payment cards, essential medication and anything you need that day with you. Ask the provider about specific items.

Check both the airport hand-in deadline and hotel collection time

Luggage Delivery by MIMARU is a separately paid service for members with a confirmed MIMARU stay. The hotel reservation and luggage-delivery booking are two separate steps. If you booked the room through Agoda or Trip.com, ask MIMARU whether that booking can be used to confirm membership and stay eligibility. The booking channel alone does not establish that you qualify.

For the dedicated airport-to-Tokyo-MIMARU service, the booking deadline is 23:00 on the day before delivery and the same-day airport hand-in deadline is 14:00. Bags handed in after 14:00 move to delivery the next day; the terms then list hotel collection from 20:00 the following day. A flight landing before 14:00 does not by itself leave enough time for same-day hand-in. Use the time you expect to finish immigration and collect checked baggage, then reach the counter. These service times are Japan local time.

At Haneda, check the dedicated guide for Terminal 3. MIMARU’s JAL ABC counter map separates hand-in on the second-floor arrivals level from collection on the third-floor departures level. Do not assume another JAL ABC counter on a different floor handles the same step. JAL ABC’s general counter hours and MIMARU’s same-day delivery cut-off are different information. If your flight uses Terminal 2, first confirm the actual hand-in point and the transfer it would require rather than treating the Terminal 3 service as a counter in your own arrivals area.

Plan the first evening around hotel collection from 20:00 onward. If you need to shower or rest as soon as your room is ready in the afternoon, pack enough in a small bag. The service flow asks you to check the delivery notice and booking details before collecting at the front desk, and the terms allow for delays, including traffic-related ones. “From 20:00” is not a promise that you will open the case at exactly 20:00, so keep that day’s essentials out of the large bag.

Leave time to return to the hotel after exploring hands-free

If you hand over luggage at the airport in the morning and spend the day elsewhere, plan for your last journey that evening to end at the hotel. Delivery is useful when it reduces the burden of carrying bags. If you go back to the hotel late to collect them and then travel a long way out again, some of that convenience disappears. Check the route from your last evening stop in Tokyo to Hatchobori and the time you expect to reach the front desk.

Exit A1 and the surrounding street at Hatchobori Station
Area around Hatchobori Station Exit A1 · 2018

Hatchobori has separate exits for the subway and JR lines, so follow signs for the line you are using. The photograph shows the area around Exit A1 as it looked in 2018. It is not a recommended exit for the hotel’s stated Hibiya Line Exit 4 or JR B1 route. If you need to avoid stairs or are travelling with a stroller, check the hotel’s universal-design access guide and Tokyo Metro’s current station facilities. A short walking time does not tell you whether a route has stairs or exposed sections in the rain.

If you expect to arrive late, ask about room check-in and luggage collection together. MIMARU’s general FAQ says check-in after 22:00 may be possible with advance notice. That does not mean you can collect luggage at any hour overnight. If a late flight or evening plans could change your arrival time, ask how to contact the branch if you miss the time you gave them.

If you will carry a bag to a Shinjuku hotel yourself, our Shinjuku arrival and return guide compares two station-to-hotel routes.

Choose the room you will return to after arranging delivery

Station East describes its rooms as apartment-style, with a kitchen and dining area. One-Bedroom Family Apartment, Two-Bedroom Apartment and Suite are different room types at the same branch. Rather than assuming the smallest room will do because a case is arriving later, consider where you will open it and prepare for the next day. A living-room photograph does not guarantee that the room layout matches the specific type you book.

If you are counting on an in-room washer to pack less, compare the Suite label with the listed facilities. The official room list says the One-Bedroom Family Apartment and Two-Bedroom Apartment do not have an in-room washer-dryer and lists shared laundry facilities. Several Suite types are separately marked with an in-room washer-dryer. That may matter for a longer stay regardless of how the bags arrive. Do not infer a washer or storage space from the living-room photograph.

This hotel may suit you if you like the Hatchobori location and apartment-style stay, and can wait until evening for your luggage on the first day. If you need to rest in your room from early afternoon and open the large case straight away, compare bringing it yourself first. Check the exact room, occupancy and cancellation terms on the booking screen for your party; this guide does not establish a price, availability or room capacity for particular dates.

Once luggage delivery and check-in are planned, compare the kitchen, laundry and cleaning needs of daily life in the room in the hotel long-stay guide.

Work backwards from your flight for hotel-to-airport delivery

For hotel-to-airport delivery, check separately when the hotel accepts your bag and when you can collect it at the airport. The dedicated service table lists same-day hand-in at MIMARU by 09:00 and airport collection from 16:00 onward. A morning flight cannot rely on same-day delivery. Ask about a previous-day option or compare carrying your bag yourself. Even if the service lists collection from 16:00, work around the airline’s baggage-drop deadline and security screening first.

Keep Narita and Haneda, as well as their terminal numbers, distinct when you compare the booking and flight details. This photograph shows the South Wing departure lobby at Narita Terminal 1 in 2014; it is not a current map of a collection counter. At the same airport, choosing the wrong terminal can leave you travelling again after collecting your luggage. Counter hours and terminals can change, so check the dedicated service guide for your departure date.

Do not apply the dedicated delivery page’s “up to 10 days of free storage” to every bag left at a hotel front desk. It belongs to that delivery service. The terms also mention a storage charge if you miss the specified collection time. If you want to leave a bag for several days, confirm which service and collection date apply. Keep ordinary parcels, luggage you leave yourself and the dedicated delivery service separate when you compare their conditions.

Keep the branch and collection time with your reservation

Once you have chosen the stay and delivery method, keep the details together. Use the exact branch name, MIMARU Tokyo Station East, and address, 1-12-8 Hatchobori. Check that the name on the stay matches the name on the delivery booking. Add the hand-in date, hotel delivery date and the time you expect to collect the case; “same-day delivery” on its own can be easy to misread. Send booking numbers or personal details through the hotel’s official contact route rather than a public forum.

Make each question specific to your plan. For an ordinary parcel, ask whether the branch can receive it before check-in and whether a storage charge applies. For the dedicated service, ask whether your booking channel qualifies, whether membership is required and when the bag can be handed over. For luggage you bring yourself, ask how many bags the branch can hold and when you can collect them. Before you get a reply, do not count on both free storage and early room access. If you do not need the large case during the day, compare the dedicated delivery option; if you do, carrying it yourself may be simpler.
