Booking a hotel parking space does not settle the conditions for driving into Milan’s Area C. Hotel Regina offers parking reservations and help with Area C payment; Best Western Hotel Major offers a base outside Area C with access to the M3 metro. Start with Regina if you want to walk around the center, and with Major if you prefer to leave the car and use the metro. Major’s partner garage is 500m from the hotel, so plan how you will move your luggage as well.
Check parking and city access separately
When arriving in a rental car, it is easy to focus on the garage entrance. First check whether your vehicle can use the approach roads. Area C has prohibited, free or paid access depending on the vehicle. For paid entry, some payment channels activate the ticket at purchase, while other tickets need a separate activation. Check the channel and ticket type, the correct license plate and completed activation. Coordinate this with parking without assuming that a room reservation settles everything.
ATM lists Area C operating hours as Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 19:30, with exceptions such as public holidays. Consider every day you expect to move the car, as well as arrival. An evening arrival followed by a morning departure cannot be assessed from the arrival time alone. Have the actual plate, country of registration and vehicle details ready for the official eligibility check.
A hotel outside Area C does not remove Milan’s other driving restrictions. The wider Area B has environmental rules, and bus lanes and individual restricted zones also need attention. This comparison does not determine permission for a particular vehicle. It weighs the two hotels’ parking arrangements and how much you intend to drive during the stay.

Regina: leave the car and walk around the center
Hotel Regina is at Via Cesare Correnti 13. Its official introduction emphasizes walking around Colonne di San Lorenzo, the Duomo and towards Navigli. Consider this location if you want to return to the room between outings or walk back after an evening out. It works especially well as a plan when the rental car stays parked in Milan until you leave for the next city.
Regina offers four reservable parking spaces in the building opposite. Its published parking charge is €30 per night, and it says it can help with Area C payment when required. The guidance does not say that Area C is included in the parking charge. Send the dates, vehicle size and expected entry and exit times when you ask, and obtain separate answers about the space and the extent of payment assistance.
The hotel also describes a loading and unloading area in front. That does not authorize every driving route to the door. Save the hotel and garage entrances separately and ask for the recommended approach before arrival. If the spaces opposite are unavailable, obtain the alternative partner garage’s location and price; do not budget for it as though it had the same conditions.
Regina’s official Double Room description lists a double bed, with twin beds available on request. If you each need a separate bed, get a response confirming the arrangement rather than relying solely on a booking note. The Agoda Classic Double photo shows a bench at the foot of the bed and seating by the window. It does not establish the layout of every room or the space available for open suitcases.
If a bathtub matters, check the Superior Room’s bathroom carefully. The official description says shower or bathtub, so the Superior name does not guarantee a tub. Both Double and Superior list a desk and kettle. Confirm that your chosen room has the bed and bathroom you need, and compare the booking screen’s room name, bedding and bathroom like for like.
The bathroom photo is one shower-room example from the property-supplied gallery. It is not a fixed layout promised for every Double Room. Decide whether you need a bath after a long drive or whether a shower is enough. Breakfast inclusion and cancellation rules must also be read separately from parking. Once dates are fixed, match the bed and bathroom first, then compare the total for that room.
A short outing towards San Lorenzo and back to the hotel is a useful way to picture a day at Regina. Leave time to rest or sort your luggage instead of packing in a long sightseeing list. An evening in Navigli can also influence the location decision, but the area description cannot guarantee quiet or sleep quality. If room orientation matters, identify what you want to request before booking.
Regina identifies M4 De Amicis as a nearby metro access point and mentions the M4 connection to Linate Airport. This may keep the location useful if you return the rental car and make the final journey by public transport. Do not fix an airport journey time or first or last train without knowing the return location and flight. Check travel-day service and the luggage route to the station entrance together.
Regina suits travelers willing to coordinate parking and city access in advance for a central walking stay. Its compromises are the four-space limit and Area C handling that is not automatically bundled into the room reservation. If you plan to take the car out daily, compare entry and exit conditions with your driving schedule before choosing for location alone.
Major: park, then take the M3 into town
Best Western Hotel Major is at Viale Isonzo 2 in the Porta Romana area. Its official website places it outside Area C, beside M3 Lodi TIBB. The plan is to stay here and take the metro into the center rather than drive to a central hotel. Consider whether leaving the car alone for more of the stay fits your own itinerary.
Major’s driving-arrival guidance places the partner garage 500m from the hotel. A parking symbol in a hotel listing can suggest a garage directly underneath, but that would give the wrong picture of arrival here. With heavy cases, ask whether you can unload at the hotel first and whether one person can check in while the driver parks. In rain or with a late arrival, garage opening hours and the walk back may affect the choice.
Ask Major for the garage name, height limit, reservation procedure and hours when you can retrieve the car. Obtain the address and a confirmation that a space has been secured before making the final choice. Being outside Area C should not be extended into a promise that every vehicle can reach that garage without other restrictions.
Major provides useful published room sizes. Standard is 22m², with single, double and twin configurations described; Comfort is 22 to 29m², with double or twin beds. The bottom of the Comfort size range equals Standard, so the category name alone does not guarantee more floor space. Check the applicable room range and the bedding you need together.
Economy is 14 to 17m², so usable space varies across categories in the same hotel. If a driving trip means substantial luggage, decide how you will use the room and which beds you need before comparing the cheapest category. The gallery bedroom is an example, not a promise of a particular Standard or Comfort room. Match the photographs and description attached to the room being sold.
The official room page also lists adjustable air conditioning, a kettle and minibar. Do not read that as free drinks or identical heating and cooling operation all year. Trip.com uses names such as Smart Queen and Comfort Queen, which cannot be matched to the official categories by name alone. Compare floor area and bedding, then breakfast, cancellation and payment terms.
M3 from Lodi TIBB is a practical basis for reaching the center from Major. The line runs through Duomo, making the nearby station a useful starting point during the stay. It suits going out once and returning in the evening; repeated trips back with shopping add effort. Proximity to the station does not establish stairs or elevator conditions at every exit.
Consider Major if you want a base outside Area C, M3 access and can accept moving the car to a separate garage. If you repeatedly need to load the car or a companion finds walking difficult, settle the garage location first. Then compare again with Regina, once you know whether a space opposite can actually be secured.
Choose around how often you will use the car
Picture an ordinary day during the stay before comparing arrival alone. Walking from Regina and returning for short breaks gives a different rhythm from taking the M3 out from Major and coming back once. Both may offer a parking arrangement, but the distance to your car and the effort of returning to the room differ. The parking charge alone need not decide the hotel.
For Regina, settle the parking space and city-entry procedure before departure, then consider keeping the car parked during Milan. For Major, account for the 500m between hotel and partner garage on departure as well as arrival. The final morning changes depending on whether you carry bags to the garage or can bring the car back to load at the hotel.
Ordinary Area C tickets require activation. ATM’s FAQ generally gives entry day or midnight at the end of the following day as the deadline. Discounted tickets from partner garages have an entry-day midnight exception. If a hotel or garage supplies a ticket, ask what type it is, who activates it and how completion is confirmed. Requesting payment help is not proof that processing is complete.

Answers to get before booking
When contacting the hotel, send stay dates, arrival and departure times, vehicle model and dimensions together. Ask Regina whether a space opposite is secured and what its Area C help covers. Ask Major for the partner garage’s name, entrance, hours and reservation confirmation. If the car is not yet assigned, leave time after collection to check access using its actual plate.
After parking is settled, compare rooms for the same dates, guests, bedding, breakfast and cancellation terms. Keep conditions that affect the stay in view: Regina’s requested twin arrangement and shower-or-bath wording, and Major’s Standard and Comfort size ranges. Resolving parking and driving access separately lets you judge both arrival convenience and the location where you will spend several days.
